The world's best idea validation tool.

Use Twitter to build digital products.

Hey there, J here.

This past week has been an exciting one, let me tell you why.

Business Lesson - Validate your ideas with Twitter

I've been gently and quietly cursing my "9-5" as a freelance Shopify developer for a while now.

Working on my business - DULO full-time was always the goal.

My plan this year was to take a few months off from client work, start a personal brand and focus on DULO.

There was no plan after that.

Even though, it was never realistic to grow a business that much that I can start paying myself after only a few months, having failed to do that for the past 6+ years…

So the personal brand side is going well, DULO is not moving.

At DULO we make performance menswear and it turns out that selling performance dress shirts online is a pain in the ass.

This so far is the context you need for what happened next.

For the past 6 months I've been constantly thinking about digital products, I even created some, which were planned to build on top of the DULO brand universe.

We haven't sold one.

Makes sense now thinking about it and coming from a few weeks of observing how people actually sell digital products on Twitter in significant volumes.

Two simple reasons:

1. They are not solving anyone's problem

2. We don't have anyone that excited or emotionally invested in the brand universe yet

This is where everything changed. I think.

Playing around with digital products on Shopify, as well as being a Shopify developer for the past 6+ years I started noticing people complaining about Gumroad's taxes when selling digital products on there.

Shopify's taxes are much lower and combined with it being a complete ecom platform, not just a landing page, there's a range of benefits that come along with it.

Sooo... even though I was planning on putting my Shopify experience behind me as I build the next Lululemon, I decided to test whether anyone would be interested in a course about selling digital products on Shopify.

Considering the size of my account (169 followers as of the time of writing this) the engagement the tweet got was significant.

This was all I needed. I smelled blood in the water.

Selling digital products while I sleep is my ultimate business goal.

I got to work the next day.

I made a cover image for the course and lesson learned, time to validate my idea on Twitter again:

This went significantly even more “viral”.

Dopamine rush.

Fast forward.

Course launching end of next week.

If you haven't caught the lesson yet, VALIDATE on Twitter ANY idea that you might have.

If you get any signs of interest, get to building it ASAP and SHARE the whole process with the same audience.

THIS is truly solving someone's problem, the core of what any business should be.

And with free access to the world's best idea validation tool, we have no excuse.

No story this week, the focus will be on building and launching the course.

We get back to storytelling after that ;)

Until next Tuesday!

Julian
