A short update

Hey there, J here.

If you've been following my content you know I'm starting to pivot my freelance Shopify business to a Shopify CRO agency.

I will still do development for existing clients, but the main focus will be on scaling the CRO business.

This is our landing page for it.

What is CRO you may ask?

Conversion Rate Optimization.

It's basically how not to waste traffic on an e-commerce store.

And apparently what many stores are doing, hence my hunch that there's a huge opportunity there.

And I'm basing this on our first CRO project for a client.

Why the switch?

That was one successful A/B test, it took me 2-4 hours of development time.

The ROI is from a different planet than charging hourly rates for development work.

But enough about me.

To scale this, we started doing some cold email outreach.

We are getting decent results, so in case you decide to search for new clients through email, here are some tips to increase your open rates.

For your subject lines:

  1. Don't use BS marketing jargon, such as promises for any % increases, etc. (they will go to spam)

  2. Keep them short 3-5 words max (in my opinion 3 is max)

  3. Get straight to the point

  4. Lowercase might help

We usually do a 5 email sequence and here is what we've been using, with stats:

Campaign 1 - 100 prospects

Email 1 (A/B tested)

Version A subject: conversion rate

Open rate: 52.1%

Version B subject: CR issues

Open rate: 48.9%

Email 2 follows the same threads, so the subject lines are the same.

Email 3

Subject: <> Bing Bros Meeting

Open rate: 60% (fat!)

Email 4

Subject: Re: <> Bing Bros Meeting

Open rate: 42%

Email 5 has not gone out yet.

Campaign 2 - 200 prospects

Email 1 (A/B tested)

Version A subject: conversion rate

Open rate: 55.1%

Version B subject: Call me EBITDADDY

Open rate: 56.8%

The rest of the emails are still getting sent out.

We're still learning and I'll be sharing any major wins in case they might be useful to you as well.
