DTC+: How to outperform AI

Go medieval.

*This newsletter has the potential to age like milk, but let’s take that gamble

Ecommerce has been flooded with the hype of AI product images.

Only a matter of time before every brand starts leveraging this tech to spawn “perfect” product images and the industry begins to blend, at first without realizing, into a soup that somehow feels the same, no matter what online store you’re on.

Here’s what I’d do as an experiment:

Hire an amazing team of photographers and models to make a truly exceptional live photoshoot.

Use those images on your product page with an * somewhere noting that no AI has been used.

I bet customers will be more impressed.

It’s much easier selling to impressed customers.

Ever received an AI image/song that was really good, but subconsciously you just can’t get impressed?

It’s a “meh” feeling, you want to like it, but you just can’t.

Few reasons why.

The human brain appreciates (and immediately recognizes) effort and greatness.

Dropping a mediocre image combined with an AI prompt kills the trigger to impress, whatever the result is.

Also, the human shopper wants to buy things he knows will look exactly the same as on the image.

Even the slight assumption that AI has been used will seed doubt into a shopper (even more so that the negative connotation of “being photoshopped”), whether the product will actually look like that when it arrives.

I’ve been wrong a few times before though, let’s see how this milk goes.

NEEDLE MOVING CRO HERE.
